December 2016 Club Ice

Wow !! Christmas is almost here. Many of our skaters and their guests enjoyed the club ice session following December testing. Donuts, coffee cake, and other treats were served during the session. There were skaters just socializing but there were also those skaters obviously working to put the finishing touches on their Christmas program before the show at BOK in two weeks. All of them were having fun. Thank you to the TFSC members, coaches, and Oilers Ice Center for the continued support of TFSC.

A special thanks to Coach Jessie who traveled with the skaters to Oklahoma City, making sure each was ready to go for their skate. She was there at 6am for the first practice session and still there at 2:30pm when the last skater took the ice. Thank you coach for your support of TFSC. Jessie is pictured below with some of the Tulsa skaters.

Kicking off the fall season

Club ice starts this Saturday, September 10th! All club members are invited to attend the unveiling of our new bulletin board and display case in the rink lobby and meet with the board members. We’ll have some refreshments and some fun on the ice for the skaters too. Finalists for the “Design a t-shirt” contest will be announced.

Welcome to new board member, Kathy Gibson

The board of governors is pleased to announce that Kathy Gibson has been appointed to fill a term vacancy. Kathy has served on the board previously, is an active adult skater, and a bronze level judge. She will be taking on the role of SafeSport committee chair for us. This is an important role in ensuring we stay compliant with the US Figure Skating and US Olympic Committee’s program to provide a safe environment for all our participants and volunteers.

Tulsa FSC is a “Plus 10”

We are growing…come grow with us! Tulsa Figure Skating Club was recently recognized by US Figure Skating as a “Plus 10” membership growth club. That means we added 10 or more new introductory members last year. We have a goal to do that again this year.

TFSC is an enthusiastic supporter of the Learn to Skate USA program, the starting point for basic skating skills endorsed by the three governing bodies of US Figure Skating, USA Hockey, and US Speed Skating. Check out their web site for answers to all your initial questions about skating and how to get started. Our local Learn to Skate partner and home ice rink is the Oilers Ice Center at 66th & Mingo.

Welcome to our new club president

Robert Baker has been elected by the Board of Governors to serve as club President for the 2016-2017 season. Robert was previously a competitive skater for TFSC and has transitioned into the role of coach. He joined the board this past year and is exciting about continuing the great legacy of figure skating in the Tulsa area. You can contact him with questions or congratulations at

Pizza, camraderie enjoyed at US Nationals watch party

Skaters, parents, coaches, and judges shared good food and fellowship during the Ladies final TV broadcast in January. Our skaters of all ages enjoyed making decorations, hanging out together, and of course eating lots of pizza and dessert! The grownups enjoyed talking about a range of skating topics, including our favorites (or not!) of the competitors dresses. We hope to see even more smiling faces at our next social event.

A big shout out to the Mazzio’s Pizza in Jenks for letting us take over their front room for 3 hours!

Club ice returns to 1st Saturdays for 2016

We hope you enjoyed the series of weekly classes on club ice this last fall. We were able to introduce skaters to the disciplines of dance and synchronized skating, as well as provide other in depth classes with our experienced coaching staff. The board has enjoyed bringing these opportunities to our skaters of all ages.

Since membership dues for the year were based on monthly club ice and we must be responsible with our funds, we will be returning to 1st Saturday club ice sessions for the rest of this season (January – May 2016). If you feel the weekly club ice was valuable and would like to continue it for next season, please let the board ( know. We will take your feedback into consideration when setting dues and schedules for the 2016-2017 membership year.

Lastly, many thanks go out to our talented coaches who assisted with teaching classes or the TFSC group holiday show number. We couldn’t do it without them! Thank you Jessie, Kelly, Phyllis, Robert, Boyko, and Michelle. (Apologies to anyone we missed who also helped!)

The remaining club ice dates for the 2015-2016 membership year are as follows, all from 9-10am:

  • February 6
  • March 5
  • April 2
  • May 7
